Supply List for workshops

Neal Hughes Supply List 1/9/25

Below is a basic supply list.  I try different colors, brushes and other supplies often so this list will change often.

Painting surface:
I use acrylic primed linen. Larger sizes are stretched canvas and smaller sizes are usually Centurion linen panels.  Other types of canvas board, wood panels or stretched canvas are fine.

Brushes:
Bristle long flats – These are the standard oil brushes with off white bristles. Rosemary and Co. and Davinci Maestro are two brands I use. Other quality high brands will work too. Various sizes.

Bristle Rounds – Size 3 and 6.  Rosemary or other brands.

Rosemary and Co. Eclipse extra long combers – Variety of sizes.

Rosemary 279 masters choice long flats brushes – Variety of sizes.

Rosemary Shiraz Filbert – Variety of sizes.

Da Vinci flat spalter brush – 30mm, 40mm

Riggers – It is good to have a rigger or two and I use different ones such as Rosemary Shiraz, Evergreen and series 273,

Paints – Basic oil colors that I am currently using:

titanium white, cadmium yellow light or a lemon yellow, cadmium yellow, indian yellow, naples yellow, yellow ochre, cad. red (or permanent red), alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue and thalo turquoise, terre verte, olive green and raw umber.

Paint brands I use include Charvin, Rembrandt, Winsor Newton, Gamblin and others. Any quality oil paint will work.

palette – I have a painting box with a glass palette.

paint thinner – I use Gamsol by Gamblin.

easel – Portable easel. I am using a Gloucester style (Take It easel).  I use a tripod mounted easel and lighter gear if I am painting away from my truck. Artpro easels are one of the brands I use.

medium – Mixture of Galkyd light, OMS and Linseed stand oil.  I also use Liquin impasto for heavier passages.
